Adobe Reader X, là phiên bản tiếp theo của chương trình đọc file PDF nổi tiếng Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader. Ngoài việc thừa kế tính tương thích hoàn hảo, giao diện đẹp, thanh công cụ chuyên nghiệp và tiện lợi trong việc thao tác với file PDF; phiên bản Adobe Reader X còn tập trung đến khả năng bảo mật, vốn khá yếu kém và hay bị lợi dụng, khai thác trong phiên bản Adobe Reader trước đó.

Trong phiên bản Adobe Reader X, chức năng Protected Mode – sandboxing sẽ “khoác” thêm cho chương trình một lớp bảo vệ bên ngoài. Vì thế các đoạn mã độc hại có sẵn trong file PDF không thể phát tán ra ngoài, việc này làm cho các đoạn mã độc không thể thực hiện các hành vi gây hại tới hệ thống của người sử dụng.
